Our Heritage

photo

Two heritage temples of 18th century made Pursurah a destination for the tourists. One is Raghunandan temple of Parul and the other is Bisalakshi temple at the same village. Raghunandan temple, an at chala, was built by Chakravorty family of Parul in 1768, with extensive terracota design work and Bisalakshi temple was built in 1859, with terracotta panels and artistic decoration. David J. McCutchion,an eminent scholer mentioned another temple in the same locality at village Kanpur--- the Kanakesvara temple. It is an eka ratna brick temple with open verandah all round having arhes on wall sections. The design probably has originated from the rekha deul concept of architecture.
