Dhaniakhali played a very important role in textile industry of Bengal since long. Even the British traders preferred Dhaniakhali cotton handloom along with Muslins.
The Jamdani saris that originated in Dhaka, are also produced in Dhaniakhali. It has been traditionally in Kora or natural grey with either red or black plain border. The dyed yarn was first introduced in 1942. In Dhaniakhali every household has at least one loom. An ordinary Dhaniakhali saree takes a minimum of two days, pitching in 10–12 hours each day, to be woven.
Over the years the state government has been marketing the Dhaniakhali handloom sarees of Bengal, and it has got GI tag and turned into a fashion statement in the sub-continent.
