Mahanad is a historical place under Polba PS. There are a number of mounds which have yielded many valuable historical artifacts of different ages. Trial excavation by the Archaeological Survey of India yielded pottery of early 5 th century AD, stucco heads of the 5th - 6th century AD, gold coins of Kusana and Gupta dynasty and many more. An ancient lord Shiva temple in Mahanad called Jateswer Shiv Temple.Mahand is the 'Yogpith' of 'Nath Yogis', from thousands of years. There is a 188-year-old Kali temple here called Mahanad Kali Mandir. The zamindar Krishnachandra Niyogi established the Mahanad Kali temple in 1830. It is believed that Rani Rashmoni visited this temple in the year 1842-43.
